Age 2 and 5 are interesting ages to me.

Age 2 a.k.a. terrible two. I often joke that even dogs don't enjoy playing with a 2-year-old.

Rosie, entering her18months, started to display a few signs of Terrible Two.

She has her own mind. She knows what she wants but frustrates at not being able to communicate with us.

<Growing to be bilingual, her speech develops slower than her friends, which I understand very well given my experience with Calum. I kind of enjoy this period of time because I know once she starts talking, it will be non-stop. Just like Pringles. Once you pop, you can't stop!>

At 2 years old, she wants to do what we do.

She wants to walk Boomer.

She wants to eat by herself.

She wants to brush teeh by herself.

She wants to comb her own hair.

She wants to put her own shoes.

.

.

.

.

All very cute until you need to deal with these for hours.

I never blame dogs who don't want to play with 2-year-olds.

They pull tails. They tuck ears. And they love to sit on dogs pretending it is a "giddya".

Age 5 is an age where kids noticed their differences.

It was that year Calum asked if I could speak English to him at school because he didn't want to be different.

It was that year he made friends with a very pale Caucasian friend Nate and a very dark African American friend Dessaline.

We talked about what was being different and how it felt to be different.

When I probed him about people of colors, he replied, “there is no such thing”.

People are people. They look different on the outside (skin color, eye color, hair color, taller, shorter, bigger, etc.) but we are all the same.

He told (and taught) me.

At age 2, my little baby tells you he/she is an individual. At age 5, my little baby offers me base-line wisdom.
