Check out the Art Institute of Chicago

Pete's childhood friend Marty and his wife Angela visited us for a day and a half on en route from Michigan to Las Vagas. We decided to take them to the Art Institute before their flight at 7 pm.

Last time I went to the Art Institute was 2 years with Calum and our neighbors in Park Ridge, so it was nice to visit the museum again with friends and Pete. When we got there, I was surprised to see that there was a special exhibition on Caravaggio's Last Super at Emmuas! I was very excited because I just finished reading a book about a young art historian searching for a lost painting by Caravaggio; The Lost Painting: The Quest for a Caravaggio Masterpiece by Jonathon Harr. I cannot remember who gave me the book, but I do remember that I didn't particular enjoy the writing. Its content and history background, however, makes more impression on me. There was no pictures in the book, so I always wondered how the real painting looked like and told myself to look for Caravaggio's paintings and to see with my own eyes.

Art Institute was able to loan one painting, The Last Supper at Emmuas, from The National Gallery of London for the holiday amongst other painters who were influenced by Caravaggio. I have to say, I was stunned by his painting and felt touched to see the painting in such a close range. The color contrast of the paints, the expressions on the portraits face...I felt the painting was alive!!! I would love to sit in front of the painting the whole day!

We then went to the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism galleries, which I am more familiar with. I have to admit that I didn't enjoy nor understand the contemporary arts. Maybe if I had taken some art courses, I would have been able to appreciate the modern arts, but not yet.
