"When you are comfortable with your differences, you are free".
This phrase came to my mind while I was watching CNN news on the main floor with Boomer and Pete watched Sherlok Holmes in the basement on a Sunday evening.
Calum had gone to his friend's for a sleepover and Rosie was in bed.
Pete and I had steak, Brussels sprouts and wine for dinner (a typical kids-free night dinner for us).
When we were dating, having different interests troubled Pete a lot.
He likes sports; I art.
He listens to pop music; I operas.
He outdoorly; I not.
He was troubled by it.
"How do we get alone and enjoy our life together if we don't like the same things?"
My reponse was; "That will be more fun!".
However, I started to go to baseball games and he took me out to opera.
After a while I enouranged him to go with his buddies to the ball games while I stayed home with kids.
After a while even though Pete started to like opera or comtemporary operatra, I would rather stay home with him and kids.
Tonight, when he invited me to watch Sherlock Holmes, I declined.
He was OK by it. We had dinner together then he went to the basement to watch Sherlock Holmes and I CNN.
We were not together but we are.
We are comfortable with our differences but we are OK.
